If a Christian is on the war path, it is a crusade (as we learn about in history books). If a Muslim is on the war path, it is a jihad (as we learn about on cable news). There are a lot of religions on the war path out there with no simple word to describe them that kind of get a “free pass”; we don’t often blame Judaism for apartheid, which is a result of Zionism (as we learn about from Middle Eastern periodicals). Can we annotate Buddhists for their hegemonical acts by calling out “Zenism”? Bollywood blows up its fair share of guts on the silver screen, but everyone seems to accept THAT presentation as fake, and Hinduism gets by without a warrior’s shame of being called hotheaded. It seems that the accusative nominative grammar of English is incomplete and underused.
