Cho Aniki

I love computer games that use pictures of living people for animations. They are almost always absurd, vivid, and tongue in cheek. Cho Aniki (inspired by Yatta! and R-Type) and Kanye Quest 3030 (Inspired by NWA and Phantasy Star) come to mind. It’s too bad that both are so culturally monotone. They probably have to maintain max-“sterotypical racism”-level so as not to create real world fights. NBA Jam’s racially and commercially charged atmosphere is harmless by comparison, even though the controls, like Cho Aniki and Kanye Quest 3030, take a backseat to the razzle-dazzle live-actor graphics. Command and Conquer: Red Alert is a good game that has live-action video, but it’s relegated to the cutscenes. Some games, like Wasteland 2, have live-action intro videos, and completely computer-generated graphics engines, and they’re usually good, but the switch can be offputting to a purist who want a tightly-controlled artistic direction for the entire package. I would mention Mortal Kombat, but they moved on to CGI shading captures of dead people.
