If you want to make a potato go mental, ask it about it’s family history. Self-examination can bring down the strongest person, and I’m sure it feels uncomfortable to consciously bridge the gap between the present and your own birth, realizing you are your own ancestor, and not even having any way of knowing who your parent’s were, but suspecting they were a lot like you.
